Companies House often referred to as Company House are the government agency responsible for the incorporation and dissolution of limited companies in the UK. Their other primary function is to manage the filing of statutory company information and make such information available in the public domain in accordance with the Companies Act 1985.
There are currently around 4.5 million registered companies in the UK, approximately 2.5 million of these companies are known to be actively trading. Over the last 3 years their has been a significant increase in the number of new companies that are being registered in the UK, in the early months of 2005 Company House were registering in some cases over 12,000 new companies per month. There are a number of reasons for the increase in newly registered companies, namely the growing trend in entrepreneurialship in the UK and the desire for individuals to escape the traditional workspace and invest their skills in a more rewarding experience. In addition to this there has been a number of regulatory changes that has given rise to more preferential tax treatment for limited companies as well as less red tape.
